That which doesn’t kill us, makes us stronger – Friedrich Nietzsche

Just over a year ago, I bought myself a second hand Surly Disc Trucker, with the idea of doing some “proper” touring. 2017 flew by, and apart from a few day rides and a short 4 day camping tour, the Surly wasn’t earning her keep – unless you count the workout I got every time I took her out !
Christened “The Tank”, on account of her weight and undoubted strength, she provided a comfortable and reassuringly stable ride when laden with camping gear, but also demanded a level of effort from me that I had not expected.
This year, I am determined that she will travel and that I will be in shape to ride. I have forsaken my lighter bikes and do all my riding on her, and I’ve been sorting out my camping gear and starting to plan where I might go. May and early June have been kept clear in the diary, permission sought and granted for a few weeks away – all that remains is to actually decide where to go ! As the King of indecision, I can’t make up my mind
I decided to write a blog partly as a way of remembering the trip, but also as an added incentive not to let the summer drift by again. I’ll update the blog as plans progress.
