Day 3 – Santander to Laredo – 28 miles

All hope of a good nights sleep was dashed by a guy snoring in the cabin next door, but at least the sea had been calm for the whole journey. Managed a full traditional English breakfast, which helped pass the last few hours on the ferry. I’ll never complain about a long long flight again, nearly 30 hrs on a ferry is insane !

The coast of Spain was a welcome sight, but also led to thoughts of what lay ahead, not least the problem if finding somewhere to load up with food and water on a Sunday afternoon in Spain. Tim my cycling partner is wondering if he can do the whole trip without spending more than the €600 he has exchanged . We had been talking about people who tour and try to live off scavenged food from rubbish bins, I hope we’re not about to start that ! Although I have an impressive collection of salt, sugar, tea coffee and milk cartons “collected” from the hotel and ferry.

Having got of the ferry, what’s the first thing we did ? Go looking for another ferry, naturally !

This time just a few minutes wait and a short trip across the bay. The only worry was the bikes on the bow held on with string !

Been a Sunday, there were no supermarkets open, so into s bar for a cafe negro and to fill up the water bottles. Then with it already at 1600 off we go – flat and then up ! With the hope of finding a campsite around 25 miles away.

Stunning scenery today

Finally after a bit of searching we roll into “Laredo camping”.  A quick refreshing (i.e cold water) shower and it’s off out for dinner.
