For the first time this trip we awoke to a very overcast day. Another leisurely start and then off. At Deba we saw an impressive viaduct – we missed this and got a 3 mile coastal Climb instead.

Breakfast a bit late today, but nice view across the harbour at Zumaia

Then it was relatively gentle up and downs towards San Sebastian. We stopped for a rest at a Spanish tea room (i.e bus shelter)

Then onto San Sebastián, where we got hopelessly lost trying to stay off the dual carriageways. We had a bit of help from a couple on moped for a while and then our saviour on a mountain bike, who guided us on cycle paths through the east of the city and out towards the campsite. The only snag was the last 5k was on a busy dual carriageway with a tunnel. All fine though as there was a wide shoulder. He also gave us what was left of a bag of peaches for the journey.
San Sebastián looked lovely, with lots of 19th century houses, sadly as it was all a bit stressful there are no pictures.
We’re now only around 10k from the French border, so tomorrow will see us leaving Spain. I suspect we will miss the scenery, but not the hills ! and we will miss Spanish drivers, they are unbelievably considerate to cyclists. Our mountain bike guide thought this was because cycling is such a big thing in the Basque Country.
Dinner in the camp restaurant tonight, menu was basically a choice of fried egg and chips, or fried egg and salad, with chicken or beef. Hoping for better in France.
