So tomorrow evening, I set sail for the Netherlands. Spent most of the day packing, and repacking. Think I’ve finally got myself sorted.
I’ve 17 days there and no detailed plan beyond the first couple of days. I’ll probably head up the long distance North Sea route, then pick up the Saxon trail which takes me East then South around the edges of the Netherlands, there’s then a route that swings through Arnhem (rich pickings for lots of “Bridge too far” jokes) and either back down the Rhine to Rotterdam or further south depending on the time.
I was going to camp, but it looked decidedly chilly at night for the first week or so, so I have decided to ditch the tent and stay in hotels or BnBs. It’s going to make life a little more complicated in terms of planning, and a little less spontaneous, but at least I’ll be dry and hopefully warm at night and won’t have to worry about unpacking and packing all the gear each day.
I’ve decided this is going to be a relaxing break, so I’m not going to bust a gut in terms of distances, I may just sit and stare at the windmills and tulips for a few weeks !
