After a good nights sleep we both woke early. Sadly we were trapped in the pub until the landlord opened up. He was setting his alarm for 8, he didn’t look like an early riser !
As the pub was in the process of being refurbished, there was no kitchen, so once away from the pub we headed off in search of breakfast.
The local town offered a Greggs, but we decided to opt for a change of scene and picked a local highly recommended coffee shop on Google. Sadly or predictably it was still closed.

Luckily the Greggs was 120 metres down the road, so Greggs it was going to be, until we discovered what was next door. In the end we compromised, with Bacon roll from the Hog Roast Deli and tea/coffee from Greggs

Once fed, we were off. A fifty mile plus ride hugging the coast as much as possible. Sometimes quiet roads, but also some really rough gravel tracks, but stunning scenery all the way.

Dotted along the way, the obligatory ruined castle, and fishing ports. Destination for the day was near Bamborough. We took a final detour to Seahouses for an afternoon tea and shop. We picked the finest establishment available for tea – perhaps it was the lure of the crazy golf.

Dinner purchased, we headed to the campsite which would be home for two nights. Tomorrow we plan to do some unloaded touring in the area, we are both looking forward to shedding our 20kg plus loads !

What happens after that we are not sure. It’s been surprisingly hard to find campsites, with the weekend coming up many will be fully booked. Sure we will work out something.
I fear Greggs is a recurring theme 😱. As a true Yorkshireman I hope you have the Gregg app for the freebies! As you took a coastal route I assume a flat ride – you gone soft?
I have indeed got the app – I’m not normally a consumer of Greggs, but they are pretty handy when touring. If only the coastal route was flat, think it was close to 700m of climbing today, hard work with 22kg on the bike
